Stella Sitko of Oakburn, Manitoba passed away on July 25, 2019 at the Shoal Lake-Strathclair Health Centre at the age of 79 years.
Born in Zaporoza on April 16, 1940, Stella was the daughter of Caroline (Topolniski) and Stefan Maydanuk. She was raised on the farm and went to Zaporoza School. Stella worked as an assistant cook in the Hamiota Hospital after completing grade 9. On October 17, 1959, she married Frank Sitko and they farmed in the Seech district while raising their two children. She was a member of the Parkland Ukrainian Pioneer Association and could be found preparing and/or serving food at many associated events. After retiring, Stella and Frank remained on the family farm.
She was predeceased by her parents Caroline and Stefan, half-brothers Frank and Peter, half-sisters Anne, Tina and Jean. Surviving are her husband Frank, daughter Florence and son Raymond. Also surviving is brother Walter (Sonia) Maydaniuk, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
The funeral service was held on august 5, 2019 from Lady of Assumption Roman Catholic church with Rev. Paul Bisson officiating. Interment followed in St. Catherine’s Roman Catholic cemetery, Oakburn.
Pallbearers were Tony Yuriy, Arden Madill, Wayne Niznowski, Richard Niznowski, Glen Niznowski and Daryl Drozda.
Memorial donations in memory of Stella may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
