Adam Prokopchuk Obituary

Adam Micheal Prokopchuk passed away at the Minnedosa Hospital on Thursday, February 25, 2021 at the age of 69 years.  He is now free from pain and has gained his wings.

Adam was born to Steve Prokopchuk and Sadie (Kowal) Prokopchuk on December 26, 1951 at Erickson, MB.  Adam was the second oldest of four children born to his parents.  He lived the majority of his life in Onanole, with the exception of the few years he worked away at various points between BC and Ontario.  The majority of his working years was spent with Public Works Canada, Ducks Unlimited and most recently Beatty Construction, where he worked until health issues forced him to retire.

While growing up, Adam spent a lot of time with the neighbor kids.  They played hockey at the outdoor rink until the wee hours, trapped, hunted and fished non-stop.  In the teen years, he evolved to hanging out with his older, neighbor friends who involved him in their various car shenanigans.  Eventually, they went separate ways to start their lives but always remained friends.

Adam unknowingly met his future wife Louise Oman of Erickson, MB at the Viking Valley Snow Festival dance in the winter of 1974.  Louise invited him to be her grad escort that spring and the rest is history.  They were married on August 14, 1976 in Onanole.  Daughter Erin was born in 1978 and son Chad was born in 1981.

In his later years, Adam became a loyal follower of the 431 Air Demonstration Squadron Snowbirds and loved to collect anything to do with them.  He also enjoyed camping, fishing, having coffee with his buddies, and capturing nature through his camera lens.  He spent many hours over the years at the rink watching Chad play hockey and Erin figure skating and curling.  He also spent many cherished hours with his grandchildren, sharing his humor and teaching them his antics.

Adam leaves to mourn Louise, his loving wife of almost 45 years, daughter Erin (Todd) Norgan, son Chad Prokopchuk, grandchildren Bailey, Austin and Danika Norgan and his special pet buddies Hunter and Mango.  He is also survived by his mom Sadie Prokopchuk, sister Pat Spaller, brother Wally (Linda) Prokopchuk, sister Sandra (Lee) Frey, brother-in-law Forrest (Nellie) Oman and brother-in-law Gary (Louise) Oman, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.

He was predeceased by his dad Steve Prokopchuk, father-in-law John Oman, mother-in-law Ellen Oman, brother-in-law Jim Spaller, niece Caitlyn Frey and nephew Dwayne Oman.

A private graveside service was held on Thursday, March 4, 2021 at the Onanole Cemetery with Deacon Conrad Plante officiating.  Urn bearers were Chad and Erin.  Raes Funeral Service in care of arrangements.
