Bill Slashinsky Obituary

William (Bill) Slashinsky passed away peacefully at the age of 96 on Sunday, January 14, 2024, at the Dauphin Hospital.  He is survived by his three sons: Lorne, Dennis (Kathy), and Larry.  Bill was predeceased by Helen in 2020.

William was born on March 12, 1927, at Sandy Lake on the farm to Onufry and Frosyna Slashinsky.  Bill had 5 brothers and 3 sisters:  Metro, Steve, Philip, Alex, Mike, Mary Henkewich, Teenie Bialis, and Ann Prokopchak.  He was raised in Sandy Lake District attending a variety of schools in the area.

In his younger years Bill operated a sawmill at Crawford Park, developing many friendships.  He also did land clearing with bulldozers for local area farmers, repaired various farm equipment and farmed with his 3 sons.  Bill really enjoyed attending farm auctions across Manitoba and in the United States – sourcing farm equipment.  Another past time he enjoyed, was going for drives with Mom and friends - going for coffee and suppers.

Bill met his future wife Helen Gawryluk and were married at Sandy Lake on October 28, 1960.  After marrying, they established their home on the Slashinsky family farm, south-west of Onanole – north of Rackham.

Bill actively farmed, a bit less in his later years, and lived on the family farm until his passing.

He will be remembered by his sons Lorne, Dennis (Kathy), and Larry; Tina and Teresa (Marc)grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren – Taylor, Isla, Maddison, and Lochlan, and nieces.

The family thanks those who sent condolences, shared their memories, and provided support.

Friends and family have shared their relationship to show their support.
