David was born on May 18, 1952 to William and Nellie (Drozda) Gapka of Rossburn. Growing up in Rossburn he gained his strong work ethic helping on the family farm. David’s career started at the Manco Cheese Plant in Rossburn until he moved to Winnipeg and secured a job at Silverwood Dairy. He worked from the plant floor to managerial positions. He retired in 2013 to live life at a slower pace. He began a lawn care business with his beloved John Deere equipment, woodworking, enjoyed camping with Wendy and spending time with friends and family especially his two grandchildren, Leah and Evan, who were the light of his life bringing him so much love and joy.
David’s love of sports began in his early years. He played ball, broomball, curled and hockey. His love of hockey began when watching Saturday Night Hockey with his dad on the black and white TV. He was an avid fan of the Blue Bombers, never missing a game. David’s love of ball carried onto his daughter, Kerri Lynn. He was a huge supporter of her softball career by always making time to play catch in the backyard and travel to tournaments across Canada and the U.S.A.
David was a man of kindness, loyalty, laughter and strong family values leaving behind a lasting impact on all who knew him. He will be deeply missed but forever remembered by his family and friends.
