At the age of 60, Dwight passed away surrounded by his family in his favourite chair. He was an only child born in Neepawa, MB on August 13, 1959 to John and Bernice McMillan. He completed high school at Erickson Collegiate in Erickson, MB. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife Joanne, his daughter Cassandra, her fiancé Robert and twin boys Douglas and Charles, and his mother Bernice. Dwight was an important member of the community, having spent the last 40 years as a member of the Onanole Fire Department with over 30 of those years as Chief of the Department. He had just started his first week of retirement after working over 30 years for Parks Canada. He was also proud to be president of his local union chapter. Dwight found it very rewarding and fulfilling to help his colleagues. Dwight had a love for the Onanole Rec Centre, he was involved in some capacity with the Rec Centre for over 10 years. He helped Joanne run the Onanole bingo, he was always a colourful bingo caller. He made sure everyone was laughing and having a great time even though sometimes he called the games too fast on account of him “having a hot date” after the bingo was over. Dwight prided himself on his ability as a home mechanic and handyman. He may not have always had the right parts or tools but he always made it work with a hammer, a little elbow grease and a lot of colourful language. He passed on his knowledge and abilities to his children. His legacy continues on not only in the hearts and minds of his family but also the community which he loved and touched.
