She attended school up to grade 7, then went to work. She married Mike Barnesky on October,16, 1949. They farmed west of Rossburn up until Mike’s passing. Emily then bought a house in Rossburn. Later she moved to Lady Fatima where she lived until September 2024.
Emily was a strong hard-working lady with a great passion for helping people in need. She worked as a waitress for many years, then got her certification as a Health Care Aid in 1988. It was an ideal and satisfying role for her. She was still doing little errands for others in her 90’s.
Emily was a long standing member of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Ukrainian Catholic Church, being part of the Sisterhood of the church and a member of the Women’s League. She was involved in many church events and gatherings. She enjoyed fishing, curling, playing cards, doing Word Search puzzles and crocheting. She crocheted many plastic bags using grocery bags, and other types of plastic bags, keeping them out of the landfill.
Emily liked to keep busy and was an avid volunteer. She helped with the Terry Fox Run, Rossburn and District Health Centre Auxiliary, Rossburn Personal Care Home, helped with Bingos, Rossburn Meals on Wheels program, Rossburn Senior Resource and Rossburn Age Friendly Committee, Senior’s Helpers and was a member of the Rossburn Drop In Centre. She received many certificates of Appreciation and recognition for her valuable contributions to the Rossburn community. One of her favourite pastimes was going for a drive to the farm, whether it was for a short visit, crop check, cattle check or just to see what was happening.
She especially looked forward to visits from her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. The grand and great grandchildren were a blessing in her life, especially when the little ones came to visit. They made her world a little brighter and were an instant mood-lifter. Emily had an open invitation for all friends and family to visit at anytime.
We love you, will miss you, and may every tear and each fond memory be a note of love rising to meet you. Thankyou God for her life, her prayers and the precious memories she left behind. You may be gone, but your spirit will always be with us. Rest in peace, dear one, heaven has gained an angel.
