Fraser Moffat Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John Fraser Moffat, aged 89 years. Husband,
brother, father, grandfather, and great grandfather passed away with family at his side at Minnedosa
General Hospital on December 5, 2023.
Fraser was born on December 1, 1934, at Hamiota Hospital to parents Walter and Lizzie (Killoh) from the
McConnell District. He was the younger brother to Raymond and Barbara (Lechelt) and older brother to
Jimmy and Lyall. After growing up on the family farm, the Moffat’s rented out the farm in 1946 and
moved to Strathclair and Fraser completed grades 7 – 10 at the Strathclair School. It was there that he
met Barbara Cramer and they were married in 1954. Fraser and Barbara bought a farm west of
Strathclair and resided there for the next 58 years before moving into Strathclair.
Fraser farmed, worked at the Strathclair Co-op for 18 years and was an active community member. He
belonged to the Lions Club from its inception, the Old Iron Club, the Agricultural Society, Strathclair
Curling Club and was a 4-H Beef Club leader. Wherever he was needed and in whatever capacity, he
was there, from calling bingo numbers to selling popcorn and drama tickets and flipping pancakes at the
fair. He was an active curler and participated in the Labatt’s Briar on more than one occasion. His egg
business kept him occupied and in touch with people from the surrounding communities.
Strathclair was always home for Fraser and it was there he raised four children: Roxanne Marks of
Winnipeg, MB, Jayne Moffat of Calgary, AB, Brent (Kim) Moffat of Strathclair, MB and Tracy (Shawn)
Baker of Brandon, MB. Fraser fully enjoyed spending time with his 8 grandchildren and 5 great
grandchildren. He took an avid interest in everyone’s activities and always looked forward to visits. The
number of soccer, hockey, baseball, volleyball and curling games he watched was a tribute to his strong
family support.
Fraser enjoyed watching curling on TV and Blue Jays games – the latter after trips to Minneapolis to
watch the games live with Brent. He loved old time country music and played it often and loud in the
truck. Christmas was special for him as it meant time with family and friends, games like Fox and Goose
in the back yard and hours of Rumoli and Crokinole. When we hear Blue Christmas, we will always think
of him.
Fraser and Barbara were married for 69 years. We are all truly blessed to have been able to create so
many memories.
Fraser was predeceased by his parents, his brothers Raymond and Lyall, brothers-in-law Fred Steffens
and Bernie Lechelt, sisters-in-law Bev Moffat and Phyllis Cramer and niece Wendy Sorensen.

Friends and family have shared their relationship to show their support.
How do you know Fraser Moffat?
We are sorry for your loss.
Help others honor Fraser's memory.
