On Saturday, September 17th, 2022, Frederick (Fred) Thomas Solonyczny passed away peacefully at the Rossburn Personal Care Home at the age of 87. Born to Nicholas and Maria Solonyczny on April 19th, 1935, in Wowota, Saskatchewan, he had 3 older siblings: Patricia (John) Shewchuk, Katherine (Paul) Luba and Peter (Muriel) Solonyczny. At an early age the family moved to Sandy Lake, Manitoba where he attended Sandy Lake Elementary School. On October 12th, 1957, at St. Michael’s Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Sandy Lake, Fred married Lovey Krisa and together they had 4 children, Diane (Dennis) Yanchycki, Linda Solonyczny, Larry (Laura) Solonyczny, and Dale Solonyczny. The couple were together for 55 years before Lovey passed in 2012. Fred farmed the land around Sandy Lake before they moved to Winnipeg in 1968 where he began work as foreman for Northwest Smelting. After several years he left his position to resume his passion for farming and to be more involved in the lives of his 4 grandchildren, Erin (Robert) Duff, Tannis (Justin) Yanchycki, Johnny (Kelli) Yanchycki, Kurt Bugera, and his greatgrandchildren, Lena and Anya Duff. Fred lived out his final days in Sandy Lake where he could be seen riding his scooter around town, mowing his lawn and tending to his garden. The Family wants to thank the staff of Hamiota Health Centre, Minnedosa Health Centre, and the Rossburn Personal Care home for all their care and kindness.
