It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Germaine on Wednesday, March 31, 2021.
She will be forever missed by her loving children, Wanda (Larry), Holly, Valerie (Javier), and Terrace (Koreen); her grandchildren Megan, Madison, Dylan and Erica; plus numerous nieces and nephews. Germaine’s parents, Nick and Katie Sali, as well as her brothers, Lloyd (Lori) Sali, Cyril (Phyllis) Sali, Gerald (Janet) Sali; and sisters Annette (Cam) Bower and Iris (Don) Szostak.
Germaine is predeceased by her husband, Peter; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Fred and Ann Miko; brothers-in-law Wilfred Miko, Metro Miko and Ron Baraniuk; sister-in-laws, Joyce Miko and Venetta Baraniuk.
Germaine was born on January 30, 1947 in Regina, Saskatchewan. She met Peter, the love of her life at a New Year’s Eve dance and they were later married on October 8, 1966 in Regina. Together they returned to Sandy Lake where they made their home and were blessed with four wonderful children. While Peter farmed, Germaine taught Grades K to 8 at the Clear Creek School, helped out on the farm and later worked at the Sandy Lake Nursing Home. In addition, she was a member of the local Legion, Women’s League and Church Committee.
Some of her greatest joys were to bake bread, prepare huge family dinners, tend to several gardens, listen to the birds sing, cross-stitch, read books, do puzzles and watch curling.
We will cherish the many memories and time spent with her.
Our family wishes to say thank you to the staff of both the Brandon and Minnedosa Hospitals.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Holy Ghost Ukrainian Catholic Church Cemetery Fund, Sandy Lake.
