With heavy hearts but relief that her suffering is over, we want to announce the peaceful passing of our Mom, Helen Kowaluk at the Shoal Lake Personal Care Home on September 29, 2021. Mom was born on April 8th, 1930 to Mike and Jean Ostash. She married Mike Kowaluk in 1950 and they owned the general store in Solsgirth. While there they had three children Darlene, Debbie and Michael. They moved to Shoal Lake in 1960.
In addition to driving the school van for many years mom worked in the grocery store and pharmacy. She was also the cook at the Morley House Personal Care Home. She enjoyed baking pies and cinnamon buns for the residents. Everyone loved her cinnamon buns and pies. Upon retirement Mom moved to Brandon where she enjoyed going to Bingo, on Bus trips to the Casino, shopping eating out with family and friends and watching sports on TV especially curling.
Mom was a strong feisty independent woman who valued family above all else. She loved visits with her children and grandchildren, making sure they always left with a care package of some of her delicious baking. A few years ago Mom moved back to Shoal Lake to be closer to family and her many friends.
She leaves to mourn her children Darlene (Bob) Twerdun, Debbie (Doug) Koroscil, and Michael Kowaluk (Lynda), also 6 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren, Brothers Bill (Ann) Ostash, Sylvian Ostash and Sister Gwen Pich. Mom was predeceased by brother John Ostash and sister Pearl Juba.
