It is with great sorrow and sadness that we announce the sudden and peaceful passing of our beloved brother, uncle and great uncle Lawrence Henry Gurnick on July 24, 2023 at the age of 78.
Lawrence was born April 7, 1945 in Shoal Lake, Manitoba. He lived on the family farm south of town and attended Ekford and Rossburn Schools and completed his high school education at St. Joseph College in Yorkton, Saskatchewan. Lawrence continued his education at Assiniboine Community College in Brandon and graduated from Electronics, Radio and Servicing in 1966.
His first job was with a local TV Sales business for six months and business was so great that he decided to start his own company. A local restaurant in Rossburn was purchased and remodelled into
Gurnick’s TV Sales and Service. Lawrence ran this business for 13 years and enjoyed assisting his customers in the community that he loved. He decided farming was his passion so he sold his business and took over the family farm when his parents retired and moved to Rossburn. Lawrence was happiest when he was farming and tinkering with all of his machinery. He had a large herd of cattle and grew a variety of grain crops. His buildings were always painted and well maintained, and the yard was cut perfectly like a park setting.
Lawrence was an extremely shy and private person, and he loved his family dearly. He enjoyed curling, hunting, fishing, photography, flights to Calgary, and going on camping trips across North America. He also enjoyed spending time at the family cottage in Sandy Lake. He will be lovingly remembered for his wit, intelligence, humour, generosity and how he never forgot to send birthday cards or tell us how much he loved us.
Lawrence was predeceased by his parents John and Anne Gurnick and will be lovingly remembered by his sister Carol (Jon) Klagenberg of Winnipeg; nieces Leila (Mike) Kohut of Winnipeg; Mona Klagenberg (Grant Bell) of Winnipeg; Treena Klagenberg (Rob Person) of Calgary; daughters, Melanie Ozubko of Winnipeg, Kelsey Person (Kyle Chipman) of Calgary, Brianne Person (Malcolm Kinney) of Calgary, grandchildren, Auden Ozubko of Winnipeg, Dawson Kinney of Calgary; great niece Stephanie Bell of New York; great nephew Evan Bell of Winnipeg and great niece Julia Kohut of Winnipeg. Thank you to everyone for your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
