Lillian was born to Edwin and Christina (Martin) Simpson on November 21, 1922, the youngest of three daughters. Lillian went to school at Sylvester and Shoal Lake. She started school when she was 4 years old, as her father was a trustee, and they needed an extra child to keep the school open.
Lillian passed away at the Rossburn Personal Care Home on December 4, 2022, just shortly after having celebrated her 100th birthday, with her daughter, Nancy, by her side.
Lillian married Merrill Slimmon on August 31, 1944, in Brandon, MB. They had four children, Glen, Gloria, Nancy, and Kenneth. She had eight grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
She worked on the farm with Merrill, tended to a huge garden, had all kinds of plants, and loved the outdoors. Lillian took great care of her chickens and sold plenty of eggs to the community. She always welcomed visitors to stay for a meal, and her rum and butter tarts were always a big hit.
Lillian was very active in the community, a lifetime member of the Rebekah Lodge and held all of the offices over the years. She helped out at the United Church teas and suppers and was always available to babysit her grandchildren when needed. She loved her family very much.
She was a leader for the CGIT, and 4-H for many years. She loved to knit mitts for everyone and loved to do word search and puzzles. She said that it kept her mind sharp.
Lillian was predeceased by her husband Merrill, grandson Jason Drul, her sisters Alice and Eileen, brother-in-law Russ Williams, daughter-in-law Bev Slimmon and son-in-law Allan Ross.
She leaves to mourn her four children and their families, as well as many extended family members and friends.
The funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 10th, 2022, at the Westminster United Church in Shoal Lake, MB at 10:00 a.m., with Reverend Jamie Bradshaw DM officiating. Pallbearers will be Reginald Slimmon, Tim Kiliwnik, Scott Ross, Brent Zenchyshyn, Aaron Drul, and Ian Drul.
Lillian will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She was a kind gentle soul who wanted to take care everyone.
Love you mom/grandma, we are going to miss you very much.
