Lorna Veitch, daughter of Alex & Mary Bennett, was born on April 8, 1923 in the Russell Municipality. She died at the age of 98 in the Rossburn Personal Care Home on June 5, 2021.
Lorna attended Harrowby School, riding the 4 miles to school on horseback or bicycle in the summer and horse-and-cutter in the winter. After graduating from high school in Russell, she taught on permit at Crescent Ridge, and then attended Winnipeg Normal School. After Normal School, she received a position in Rossburn to teach grades 7 & 8. She taught there for 15 years. She later worked a part-time job with the Post Office in Rossburn until she retired.
She was involved in various committees and enjoyed golfing and curling. She enjoyed knitting in her spare time and made many mittens, scarves, sweaters, and afghans. She enjoyed gardening and especially her raspberry patch, loved to bake, play cards and play scrabble. She enjoyed visiting and having company over – tea was always on. She loved and took great pride in her two grandsons, who in turn gave her love, joy, and laughter.
Lorna married Sterling Veitch on July 11, 1946, and they were blessed with one son, Kevin, in 1960.
She was predeceased by her husband Sterling in 2001, her parents, and her brother Doug.
She will be sadly missed and forever remembered by her son Kevin (Audrey), grandsons Blake and Curtis (Justine), nieces, nephews, and cousins.
