Lucille Margaret (Stitt) Cornwall

Lucille M. Cornwall of Shoal Lake, Manitoba passed away on April 25, 2020 at the Shoal Lake-Strathclair Health Centre Palliative Care Unit at the age of 88 years.

Lucille was born on August 27, 1931 at Rossburn to parents, Robert and Margaret Stitt. Lucille grew up on the family farm and learned to do many chores associated with farm life.  She attended Perth and Rossburn Schools and then went to Winnipeg enrolling in the LPN Nursing program at Concordia Hospital.  She graduated in 1953 and returned to Rossburn where she accepted a job at the hospital.  She enjoyed dancing and time with friends.  She met a young man Howard Cornwall who danced her off her feet which led them to getting married on September 17, 1955 in Rossburn.  They made their home in Shoal Lake and Howard continued trucking with Lucille nursing at the Shoal Lake Hospital.  With the arrival of Deb and Bob life changed.  Howard’s work took him away from home so with family together being important Lucille packed up their trailer and they spent time at places from Flin Flon to Shoal Lake to Boissevain.  They spent many a holiday camping especially at Lake Audy in early days and later at Rossman Lake.  Lucille enjoyed golfing, curling, and especially her morning coffee with her friends and their Friday luncheons and also Sunday suppers with family.  Lucille was very proud of her family and thrilled with the arrival of her great grandchildren and so looking forward to the arrival of one more, Sheena expecting a baby later this year.

Lucille moved into Lakeshore Lodge in December 2019 and really enjoyed her short time there. Her health deteriorated and she passed away peacefully with her daughter Debbie and daughter-in-law, Roberta at her side. Rest In Peace Lucille: wife, mother, Grandma, Great grandma, Aunt and Friend.

Lucille is survived by daughter Debra Abar (Greg) and their daughters: Tricia Abar (Jay Hamilton), Sheena Abar-Iyamu (Ogie); daughter in law Roberta Cornwall (Craig Harrison) and their children Kim Armstong (AJ) and Cody Cornwall (Katryna); great grandchildren: Cameron , Norah and Ellie Hamilton, Chloe Cornwall and Chase Armstrong.  Also surviving are brothers: Don Stitt (Avis) and their children Cathy Sorotsky (Trevor) – Hallee and Reid; Mark Stitt (Kay) – Kenrda and Braden; Robert (Keith) Stitt (Audrey) and their children: Shannon; Roberta (Les Wellburn), Daniel, Kristina (Tyler) – Mason and Zoey; Brittany; Graeme (Doris) – Blake (Alicia) -Sage; sister-in-law, Betty Cornwall and her family.

Lucille was predeceased by her parents, husband of 53 years, Howard (2008), son Bob (1990) and brother-in-law, Clarence (2012).
