Marjorie Musgrove Obituary

Marjorie was born in Winnipeg, May 24,1930, and she passed away on October 29, 2023. She was the eldest daughter of Arthur and Joan Metcalfe. Arthur Metcalfe emigrated to Canada in 1924 from England. Joan Landels emigrated to Canada from Scotland in 1927.  Arthur and Joan were married in 1929. Marjorie’s brother Harold was born in 1931. They moved to the Whirlpool school district near Erickson in 1936. Later Joan, Carol and Ron were born and raised on the family farm. Marjorie left home at the age of 18 to become a school teacher in a country school in the Shoal lake area in 1947/48. She boarded at Wilf and Beatrice Musgrove’s farm where she met Jim. They were married in July,1948, and they moved into the town of Shoal Lake. She worked as a store clerk (1950-53) until the children started to arrive, Deb, Murray, Brad, and Wes.

Marjorie started work as a nurse’s aide at the Shoal Lake District hospital (1968-1974) and then became the activity director at the Morley house (1974-1990) retiring in 1990. She was a faithful member of the United Church and a proud member of Rebecca’s Lodge since May 1951. She was a Rebecca for over 70 years, in chapters in Shoal Lake, Virden and Brandon.    Jim and Marjorie lived in several different houses, but always in the Shoal Lake area. When Jim and Marjorie retired, they enjoyed time with their horses and eventually took up the game of golf at the Shoal Lake Golf Course.  Upon Jim’s death, Marjorie moved to Virden in 2008. She lived in an apartment at first and then moved into the Princess Lodge, then the Sherwood nursing home and finally, the Westman Nursing Home.

She was a very caring, humble, and gracious lady.  Home and family were very important to her. She loved to wallpaper and paint, keeping up with the decorating styles of the times. The family enjoyed the fruits of her labor. Nutritious food was always on the table because of her gardening, canning and freezing produce to be enjoyed in the winter months.

She was an excellent seamstress, making her and the children’s clothes. She loved to knit and crochet. One of her greatest passions was her computerized knitting machine.  Marjorie has one granddaughter, Kelly (Brad’s daughter). Kelly was very special in Marjorie’s life. She also treated Murray’s stepchildren as true members of the family. Scott (Shannon and son Jackson), Kerri (Mark and son Jack, Daughter Lola). Along with Colin, Clint, and Cayden Calcut.

She is predeceased by her parents Arthur and Joan, brother Harold, father and mother-in-law Wilf and Beatrice Musgrove, husband Jim, brothers-in-law Gene Musgrove and Ken Nylen, niece Linda Nylen, sisters-in-law Donna Metcalfe and Mae Musgrove, daughter-in-law Elaine Musgrove.

She will be missed by Deb (Tim), Murray, Brad, Wes, granddaughter Kelly, her sisters Joan & Carol and brother Ron, sisters-in-law Dori Metcalfe and Betty Musgrove, and many nieces and nephews and relatives in England and Scotland and many friends in Shoal Lake and Virden.

She will now peacefully start her final chapter in her journey.

Friends and family have shared their relationship to show their support.
