In the early morning of 28 December, 2024 Maureen Delores Haight passed away at the Brandon Regional Health Centre after a lengthy battle with cancer. Maureen was 79 years old.
Maureen is survived by her husband of 61 years John James Haight, her two sons John M Haight (Carolyn), and Andrew J Haight (Shannon) and is preceded in death by her son Kenneth A Haight. She leaves behind several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Maureen was born in Prince Rupert, BC to Maurice and Ina Mae Stokes on June 4th, 1945. As a youngster she attended Catholic girl’s school and in 1963 she met and married John James Haight of Pierson, Manitoba. She worked as a Ship-to-Shore telephone operator for a while before moving with her family to Haida Gwaii. In 1971 she moved again with her family to Jim’s hometown in Manitoba. There they raised their boys and made countless friends and acquaintances, enjoying many nights of cards and Saturday night jaunts to Antler and Gainsborough.
In 1982 they moved to Clear Lake, Manitoba where they purchased a small hobby farm and ran a greenhouse for a while. They eventually settled in Brandon, Manitoba, where Jim still resides.
She loved her family very much. There was nothing more pleasing to her than gathering everyone around the evening fire-pit for some storytelling and games. She canned preserves and made the best raspberry jam ever. Her homemade donuts were legendary. She will be sadly missed.
As per her wishes, there will be no formal service.
Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May their souls and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
