It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our amazing husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather – Michael Jawa. After a battle with cancer, Michael passed away peacefully on Friday, December 3, 2021, at the age of 98 years. His quiet and gentle ways will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife Sophie of 74 years.
Michael leaves to cherish his memory, wife Sophie, children Sylvia Jawa, Alice (Bob) Castle, Mark (Chris) Jawa, grandchildren Lee & Kris, Holly, Cam & Tracey, Rick & Chelsi, Alex & Harmony, great grandchildren Colin, Farrah, Taylor, Avery and Hailee, sister-in-law Jean, along with numerous relatives and special friends.
Born in Sandy Lake, Manitoba, Mike was predeceased by his parents Nicholas and Mary Jawa and stepfather Mike Wasylik, two sons – Eddie and Donnie, and his only sibling John.
A funeral mass was held from the Holy Ghost Ukrainian Catholic Church in Sandy Lake with Father Jay Korban officiating. Pallbearers were grandsons Lee Maxwell, Cam Maxwell, Rick Jawa, Alex Jawa, godson Nick Jawa and Les Wrightson. Crossbearer was Holly Maxwell. Interment was at the St. John’s Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery in Rackham.
The family would like to extend a special, heartfelt thank you to the doctors, as well as the nurses of the Russell and District Health Centre, for keeping Michael comfortable as he passed. Also, a huge thank you to Art Cochrane for the love, caring and help he and his late wife Marilyn provided to Mike on the farm in Onanole.
