Murray was born on March 18, 1936.  He attended Valley School until Grade 7.  After completing Grade 10 in Rossburn, he went into farming with his dad.  On April 28, 1960, he married Olga (nee Michaluk) and they continued farming, until her passing, raising cattle and harvesting cereal crops in the R.M. of Rossburn.  He was very mechanically inclined having the ability to fix farm machinery to completing household repairs. Education was important to dad which is why he served as a trustee for the Consolidated School District of Rossburn No. 2358 from 1965 to 1968.  The family enjoyed spending summer weekends at Rossman Lake in the trailer he built as well as boating and fishing.  Murray enjoyed spending Saturday nights at the local pool house and was known to be quite a shark!  He had a passion for playing the good old Ukrainian songs on the violin.  His love for music was passed on to his children.

In 1979, Murray and Marie (widow of Walter Woycheshin) decided to blend their families and were married on September 15, 1979.  That year, Murray semi retired from farming and moved to the Village of Rossburn.  Murray and Marie continued farming land in the R.M. of Shoal Lake for many years.  Summer weekends were spent enjoying their camper at Rossman Lake and golfing.  Dad and Marie took regular trips to visit family extending from Ontario to British Columbia.  They also enjoyed and it kept them busy when their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren came to visit.  After retiring from farming, they were active in the community.  Together they ran the Rossman Golf and Country Clubhouse for three years.  In the winter, they curled at the Rossburn Curling club taking home many trophies and helped run the canteen for two years.  Murray drove school bus and worked for Manitoba Hydro reading meters in Rossburn for 14 years.  Dad continued with his woodworking skills building musical instruments like the tsymbaly and furniture such as china cabinets and tables for themselves and the family.  Dad enjoyed watching golf, curling, hockey, Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune on TV.

Dad continued to live in the house in town until December, 2019.  He then spent time at the Rossburn and Shoal Lake Personal Care Homes until he moved to the Erickson Personal Care Home which he called home until his passing.  Dad’s wishes will be honoured with a private service led by The Rev. Fr. Brent Kuzyk, cross bearer great granddaughter Hayley and his grandchildren as the pallbearers.  Thank you to Taralee Chuchmuch for providing the luncheon following the service.

The family extends their sincere thanks to the staff at the Erickson Personal Care Home for the compassionate care provide to Murray.  You made him feel welcomed and he truly enjoyed your company and in particular watching the hockey games with you.
