Nellie Margaret Kaskiw

It is with deep sadness that we the family announce the passing of Nellie on November 25, 2021 at the Russell Health Centre, Russell, Manitoba at the age of 92 years.

Nellie was a loving wife, mother, grandma, great grandma to be and friend to many.  She leaves to cherish her memory her sons, Clarence (Norma) of Vista and Vincent of Russell, and daughters Lynn Parr (Robert) of Rapid City and Laurette Sabourin (Emile) of Rossburn.  Five grandchildren, Amber-Lynn, Clarissa (Cody), Andrew, Robert Jr. and Sacha.  She is survived by her sister Mary Budz and brothers-in-law Ed (Marian) Kaskiw and Melvin (Maria) Kaskiw, also her sisters-in-law Shirley Slobodian (Julian), Mary Kaskiw, Helen Fassbender and numerous nieces and nephews, family members and friends.

Nellie was predeceased by her loving husband Frank, parents Walter and Antonina (nee Zepa) Budz, her brother Frank (Stella) Budz, sisters Lena (Peter) Zenchyshyn, Jean (Paul) Zegalski, Josie (George) Joseph, her father and mother-in-law Anton and Mary Kaskiw, sister-in-law Rose Onofrey, brothers-in-law Jack and Stan Kaskiw, sisters-in-law Gail and Reta Kaskiw and granddaughter Rebecca Kaskiw.

Nellie was born on March 29, 1929 in the Marco district. On June 12, 1949 she married Frank Kaskiw at St. Theresa’s Roman Catholic Church Rossburn, Manitoba.  They farmed in the Oakburn-Vista area, (Oakburn-Vista Corner) for many years, where they raised their family.

In 1979, Nellie and Frank moved to Rossburn because of Frank’s health problems.  Nellie became employed at the Rossburn Health Centre in 1978 as a dietary aide.  She retired in 1991.  In her retirement she enjoyed her garden, playing cards, visiting, volunteering at the Rossburn District Health Centre and spending time with her grandchildren.

Mom was a long time parishioner of St. Theresa’s Roman Catholic Church, Rossburn, Manitoba. She was the President of the Ladies Altar Society and the Catholic Women’s League, Sacristin at both the Parish and at the Rossburn Personal Care Home. Her strong faith and devotion to Mary and Jesus brought her much consolation especially these last few years as her health declined. 

Due to Covid restrictions, Nellie’s services were private and held at St. Theresa’s Roman Catholic Church, Rossburn, Manitoba.  Prayers and rosary were held, Tuesday evening November 30, 2021.  Mass of Christian Burial was held Wednesday, December 1, 2021 with Fr. Paul Bisson officiating. Interment followed at St. Theresa’s Roman Catholic Cemetery.

Carried to her final resting place beside her husband Frank, were pallbearers Ed Budz, Sacha Sabourin, Daryle Kaskiw, Darryll Joseph, Manley Mackedenski and Ashley Mackedenski, Cross Bearer was Dwayne Joseph.
