Nick passed away peacefully at the Morley House personal care home in Shoal Lake on Nov. 16, 2023 at
age 97.
Nick was born Dec. 17, 1925 in the RM of Rossburn to Wasyl and Anna Bonchuk. He was the youngest
of ten children, having 5 sisters and 4 brothers. He was the last surviving family member, and he out-
aged all of them.
Nick married Gladys Stanchuk in August of 1973, celebrating 50 years of marriage. He was stepdad to
Dennis, Terry (predeceased), Grant & Kim.
The family moved a new house onto Nick’s farm in 1973 where they resided until 2010 which is when
they decided to sell the farm and move to the Lions Village in Birtle. In November, 2017, Nick’s health
failed then he became a resident in Morley House personal care home in Shoal Lake.
Nick was a lifetime member of Sacred Heart Ukrainian Catholic Church in Rossburn and loved fishing,
camping, hunting, travelling, music festivals, and making perogies.
Surviving Nick is his wife, Gladys; stepson Dennis (Wendy) Stanchuk, Christa (Jamie) Lovas, Shelly
Stanchuk, Sawyer Marshall-Stanchuk; stepson Grant (Ramona) Stanton, Jacob, Mitchell, Kayla;
stepdaughter Kim (Morris) Salmon, Stewart, Jenny, Eric; and several nephews, nieces, and great
grandchildren. Nick was predeceased by Terry Stanchuk and Jordyn Marshall-Stanchuk.
