Olive Mae Badger, born January 28, 1929, to Annie and John Chegwin, passed away peacefully in her sleep on June 14, 2021, at the age of 92.
Olive was born in Rossburn, MB and spent her childhood attending school there. She then moved on to school in Shoal Lake, MB where she graduated.
After graduating, Olive worked as a telephone operator in Shoal Lake for 3 years. She met her husband, Gerald Badger at a barn dance in Shoal Lake after he had just returned from the war. Olive and Gerald were married on March 29, 1949.
They had two children, Kenneth Raymond Badger (deceased August 3, 1978) and Sharon. Together they brought up their children and farmed the Badger land just south of Shoal Lake.
In the years that followed, she and Gerald took up curling and golfing together. They would travel to British Columbia once a year to visit the beauty of the Butchart Gardens and various places around Victoria. While there, they would visit with old friends and make new ones. Gerald Badger passed away on December 24, 2000.
Olive was a hard working, loving and supportive wife and mother. She spent much of her time working the fields, tending the chickens, milking cows, wrapping meat, gardening, canning, cooking and baking. When she wasn’t working, she enjoyed women’s curling. Olive was a member of the United Church, where she would help and volunteer her time.
Olive was predeceased by her husband, Gerald, brother, Wilf Chegwin and sister-in-law, Thelma Chegwin. Left to mourn her passing is her daughter Sharon Zuk, son-in-law Ron Zuk, granddaughter, Karla Badger Brown, grandson Cory Zuk, great grandson Hugo Brown and numerous relatives and friends.
