Penny Mychasiw Obituary

Penny was born on November 7, 1953 in the Gainsborough, Saskatchewan hospital. She was the third daughter of Harold & Margaret Shannon. They lived on a farm east of Pierson, MB. Penny attended school in Pierson and graduated from Melita Collegiate.

After graduating Penny worked in Regina and Brandon. While in Brandon Penny worked at the Hillcrest Personal Home as a Nurse’s Aid for several years. Is this when she met that Marco farmer? While in Brandon, rumor has it that Penny raced her fast car down Richmond Avenue, we are not sure who else was involved in the races, they were never caught.

Some of us never heard how this Southern Manitoba Gal met and fell in love with a tall handsome farm boy from Marco, MB. Their romance blossomed and on November 8, 1986 they were married. Everyone who was invited to the wedding remembers just how stormy that day was. Was it the storm of the century? Possibly NOT but it was bad enough that some highways were closed. Those who were able to get to the Rossburn church for the ceremony and to the reception in the Rossburn town hall had a great time.

On July 9, 1987 their son Jonathan was born but sadly passed away on July 10, 1987. Raymond & Penny lived in a mobile home on the farm until 1993 when Penny had her dream home built and moved onto the yard site. Living on the farm they always had a dog and for the last few years they had 3 dogs. The dogs became a huge part of their lives. The last favorite was Miley who was allowed to spend time with Penny while she was in Palliative Care in Rossburn. Penny worked part time as a statement clerk at the Credit Union in Rossburn as well as taking on a casual position at the Personal Care Home. Penny also was the Senior Resource Coordinator for the then, (Rossburn & District Senior's Helpers.)

Penny enjoyed reading and was very good at doing cross-stitch needlework pictures, done with her loving touch and are treasured by those lucky enough to get a framed picture, which were always done with much detail.

Penny really enjoyed traveling. There was a train trip to Vancouver with her mom, dad and Betty & Lloyd. A cruise with her best friend Sherri and they stopped to visit Donna & Jim in Mesa Arizona. Several concerts with sister Betty. Penny loved the Hunter Brothers and all country entertainers. Trips to Calgary to visit with her niece Shawn and family.

Whenever weather permitting, going home to the huge Craft Show and Sale in Pierson, MB. on a fall weekend was what Penny looked forward to. This also gave her an opportunity to spend quality time with family and friends. The last holiday was a 2-week vacation with friends who flew to visit sites in Yukon & Alaska. They had Penny's sister-in -law Betty Mychasiw as their tour guide so a wonderful time was had by all.

Penny was an avid Toronto Blue Jays fan and tried not to miss any of their games on TV. She knew the players by name. Curling was a winter pass time and Penny especially would watch the Men's Bonspiels on television. Penny was a caring, kind, warm and wonderful lady. Like all women she loved to shop and was a sharp dresser. Penny was a great cook never afraid to try new recipes. She mastered a lot of the Ukrainian dishes that she and Raymond enjoyed. When Penny was well before Covid, they both enjoyed visiting as well as having company visit with them.

Penny left us peacefully with her family at her side on September 21, 2022. "A life well lived much too young to go" but we shall always remember Penny and miss her dearly. Penny was predeceased by: Son Jonathon July 1987, Parents - Harold - Oct. 1994 & Margaret - Jan. 2009.

Penny leaves behind Raymond - her husband of 36 years. Sister: Betty Jeffrey - niece Shawn - husband Scott their 2 children - Jared (wife Baleigh), & Kenton. Nephew Sheldon & (Elaine) and children - Terri & Shanna. Sister Donna & her husband Jim Shaw. Also, family on Raymond's side and many friends that Penny dearly loved to visit with. In lieu of flowers, the family requests those wishing to make a donation, do so to the Rossburn Personal Care Home in memory of Penny.

Friends and family have shared their relationship to show their support.
