It is with deep sorrow we announce that Ron passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 5, 2024 at the Pembina-Manitou Personal Care Home at the age of 72.
Ron leaves to mourn his passing his siblings Josephine Nykoluk, Sam (Sylvia), Vivian Babij (Gerry), Nelson (Lesia), sisters-in-law Rose, Marlene and Phyllis their families and many nieces and nephews. The youngest of 12 children, Ron was predeceased by his brothers Melford, Lawrence, Tony, Freddie, Edwin and his sisters Margaret Lesprance and Evelyn Shindruk, brothers-in-law Eugene Nykoluk, and Sadley Shindruk.
Ron was born on January 15, 1952 to John and Rosie (Woychyshyn) Szwaluk and raised on the farm in Shoal Lake. He attended Reidville School till grade 4 and continued his education at the school in Shoal Lake. He completed grade 10 in Strathclair School. Ron had a wonderful smile and was known as “Smiley” by his classmates. Ron worked at many different jobs and lived in many places in Manitoba towns and cities. He lived in Portage la Prairie, Winnipeg, Morden, and Winkler. He enjoyed working at many jobs in each city, like at the recycling depot, McDonalds, Morden Co-op, MCC, and Poultry Plant. Ron had an exceptional memory; he remembered family birthdays, anniversaries and made an effort to call to wish them the best on their special day. He had a knack to tell you what the weather was like years ago on the day that you discussed the weather. Ron loved to paint and some family members were very fortunate to receive his paintings as gifts. He also enjoyed gardening, especially flowers, and reading farming magazines.
Ron deeply loved his family and looked forward to spending time during the holidays, especially Christmas and looked forward to the annual Szwaluk Family reunion to visit and see the family.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Pembina-Manitou Personal Care Home for providing excellent care to our dear Ron. A big thank you to Lynette Penner, who started as his care giver and then became best friend.
