Sadie Prokopchuk Obituary

Our beloved Mom, Baba and great Baba passed peacefully from this Earth on Saturday, December 16, 2023.

Sadie Kowal was born in Ozerna area on July 17, 1931. She attended Crawford Park School.

She met her best friend and soulmate Steve Prokopchuk and on June 13, 1949, they were married and started their life together. Mom and Dad enjoyed a loving, peaceful, adventurous life together.

Mom took great pride in her garden. She spent many countless hours preserving many jars of fruit such as raspberries and saskatoons as well as making borscht, sauerkraut, vegetable soup and dill pickles.

She enjoyed baking bread, buns, cinnamon buns and cut cookies which eventually found their way to the grandchildren. Some of her pastimes included making puzzles, embroidering, sewing, playing cards, playing bingo, watching curling, baseball and hockey especially # 8 Trouba on the Winnipeg Jets.

She enjoyed family and friends and many times you never left Mom’s home empty handed. A goodie bag was always given with anything from fresh bread/buns, cookies, perogies, and pickles.

Mom worked for many years seasonally at the Siesta Hotel and Thunderbird Bungalows in Clear Lake as well as for many private cottage owners. These cottage owners remained lifelong friends with Mom.

Mom resided most of her life in Onanole and in 2013 she moved to Sandy Lake. Due to health issues Mom moved into Erickson Personal Care Home in February 2016. This became her home away from home until her passing.

Dementia may have taken our Mom from us several years ago but it never took all the wonderful memories we had with her. We all know in our hearts that she continued loving us even when  she was unable to convey that in person. Her strength and wisdom are something that we all gained from her life that she lived.

Left to cherish many wonderful memories and happy times are Daughter Pat Spaller, Son Wally(Linda) Prokopchuk, Daughter Sandra Frey, Daughter in-law Louise Prokopchuk and Belinda Kuz (late partner Nick Danyk), grandchildren Lindsay(Keith) Koncz, Erin (Todd) Norgan, Chad Prokopchuk, Brett (Getze) Prokopchuk, Kelly (Troy) Henry and Taylor Frey, and great grandchildren Sam & Noah Koncz, Bailey, Austin & Danika Norgan, Amelie Prokopchuk and Charlotte Henry

Mom is reunited in Heaven by husband Steve, son Adam, son in-law Jim Spaller, Granddaughter Caitlyn, Great Grandson Minkah as well as other family members who have gone before us.

We would like to express our sincere thank you to the Erickson Personal Care Home for all their wonderful care, love, support and compassion shown to mom and her family for her almost 8 years that she had resided there.

When you hear the robins and jenny wren singing, think of our Mom.

When you see the sun rise and set think of our Mom.

Rest in paradise Mom, we will see you again. We love you.

Friends and family have shared their relationship to show their support.
How do you know Sadie Prokopchuk?
