Sadie Rystephanuk [nee Matechuk] of Sandy Lake, MB took her final peaceful breath on March 30, 2022 surrounded by family and loved ones at the Minnedosa Hospital. She will be fondly remembered and missed by all that knew her. Sadie lived a full and rich life, filled with joy, happiness and kindness.
On Dec 25, 1934 the sun rose welcoming Sadie to John and Mary Matechuk of Verigin, Saskatchewan. That day the world became a little brighter place and Sadie continued to shine her light for 87 years on all that knew and loved her. Sadie had 7 brothers and sisters falling in line at number 5. Sadie attended school in Verigin, Saskatchewan and later moved to Winnipeg where she lived with Sister, Anne and worked at the T. Eaton Co for 7 years in the mail order department.
In 1956, while visiting Sandy Lake with a friend, Sadie met Jack Rystephanuk. A romance began and led to their marriage on Oct 5, 1957. They celebrated 47 years of marriage together and were blessed with 4 children: Gail, Donna, Kathy and Brian.
Even while raising 4 children, working on the farm and planting a huge garden, Sadie also made time to be a 4-H leader and sold Avon for many years.
She spent 19 years serving the residents in the Sandy Lake nursing home as a dietary aide. She was celebrated as a 60 year life member with the Sandy Lake Ladies Auxiliary and was very active in the St Nicholas Orthodox Church. Sadie enjoyed cooking, picking mushrooms, berries, gardening, playing cards, music, curling, and golf. She loved to travel to visit her children and was sure to come home with stories of the people she met along the way. If you sat next to her, you were sure to get wrapped in the warmth of her kindness and caring personality, making friends where ever she went.
After living for close to 50 years on the farm, and the passing of her husband Jack, she relocated to Sandy Lake in 2006. Sadie loved entertaining and was the ultimate host for everyone that met her. She was all about the experience of meeting new people, finding out about their lives, and making sure they left her home well fed, a full heart and a care package.
