Sonia Borowski passed away peacefully on November 10, 2024, at Morley House Personal Care Home, Shoal Lake, MB at the age of 94.
Sonia was born on March 15, 1930, to parents Harry and Anne Komher in the R.M. of Rossburn. She was raised on the farm along with her four sisters and four brothers. She married Joe Borowski on July 12, 1950. Together they farmed North-East of Rossburn for more than 50 years and raised their two daughters, Janice and Karen and son, Perry. In her younger years, Sonia worked at the Rossburn Hospital and later drove the school bus. Sonia was a strong, hard-working lady with a great passion for gardening and yard work. She was known to grow and harvest buckets and buckets of vegetables then look for people to give them to.
Sonia was a long-standing member of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Ukrainian Catholic Church, Rossburn and loved singing in the choir. She also enjoyed playing cards with family and friends, making perogies, quilting, crocheting, and tending to her lawn.
She was fortunate to have six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, of whom she was proud of. During her retirement, she liked to frequent the coffee shop to catch up on the local town news and was involved in many church events and gatherings. At the age of 85, she learned how to use an iPad so she could FaceTime with family on a regular basis. She looked forward to her visits from her children and grandchildren and was always ready to fill their coolers with breads, soups, baking and perogies before they headed home.
Sonia was predeceased by her husband Joe in 1999. She leaves to mourn her children, Janice (Tom) Guilcher of Nova Scotia, Karen (Jim) Merrifield of Winnipeg, Perry (Denise) Borowski of Winnipeg and six grandchildren, Shaun, Carly, Jodi, Clay (Brooke), Breanne and Trevor and three great-grandchildren, Everett, Lakyn and Lennox.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Morley House for the great care and compassion given to Sonia during her stay. They would also like to thank all those who phoned, sent cards and messages during this difficult time. A big thank also goes to the staff at Rae
