Sonia Olga Nowosad (nee Sheeshka)
October 10, 1937 – February 13, 2024
On February 13, 2024, Sonia passed away at the Morley House Personal Care Home in Shoal Lake, MB. She leaves to mourn her brother Myrcel (Shirley) Sheeshka, children Pamela, Clarence (Val) and Stewart (Lynne), grandchildren Cody, Briel, Nathan, Jayden and Nicholas as well as great grandchildren Gemini, Willow, Lily and Rohan, cousins, nieces and nephews and many dear friends. Sonia was predeceased by parents Michael and Caroline Sheeshka and parents-in-law Michael and Mary Nowosad.
Sonia was born and raised in Olha, MB. She attended school in Olha and then high school in Oakburn. Sonia married Tony Nowosad in 1954. They purchased the Randall homestead where they farmed together for 70 years. Sonia and Tony adopted the first of three children in 1960. Sonia doted over her children and later her grandchildren and great grandchildren. They gave her the most joy and she encouraged her family to stay connected.
Sonia loved farm life and raised poultry and milked cows. She drove the grain truck often while raising children and being a very active member of the Ukrainian Catholic Church and her community.
Gardening and flowers brought Sonia much enjoyment as well as baking and travelling. Sonia was never fond of online interaction but soon learned that Facebook would aid in keeping in touch with family, church services and meeting Ukrainians all over the world.
Although the family mourns her passing, we also rejoice in knowing that Sonia is at peace, in no pain and with her Lord.
The funeral service was held on Monday, February 19, 2024 at the Holy Eucharist Ukrainian Catholic Church, Oakburn, with Fr. Jay Korban officiating. Interment followed in the parish cemetery. Pallbearers were Nicholas Nowosad, Nathan Nowosad, Jayden Nowosad, David Sheeshka, Willow Dean Douthwright, Kevin Stebeleski. Crossbearer was Gemini Dean Douthwright. The epistle was read by Shirley Sheeshka and the eulogy was shared by Briel Douthwright and Shirley Sheeshka.
The Nowosad and Sheeshka family would like to thank the Morley House Personal Care Home for their excellent care, Rae’s Funeral Home for the arrangements, the Pallbearers and Cross Bearer. Our thanks to Fr Jay Korban for officiating, Olga Woychyshyn for cantering and elder David Sytnyk.
