It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Sylvia Jane Derlago at the Rossburn Personal Care Home.
Sylvia was born on August 1, 1960, to Charlie and Helen Derlago. From birth, Sylvia faced significant health challenges, and doctors once believed she might not live past her sixth birthday. Demonstrating remarkable strength and resilience, she surpassed those expectations.
At the age of nine, Sylvia underwent major brain surgery, after which her health improved significantly. Sylvia attended Rossburn Elementary School for six years, where she was taught by Mrs. Douglas. She later spent three years at a disability centre in Brandon. Sylvia eventually returned home to Rossburn, where she lived with her parents and her brother, Vernon, until their passing.
Following the loss of her family, Sylvia moved to Russell, where she resided at Parkland Linc. During her time there, she actively participated in many activities, including swimming, bowling, and crafting. In 2018, she moved to the Birtle Care Home, and in 2021, she made her final move to the Rossburn Personal Care Home. Sylvia loved visiting and socializing. She greeted everyone with a warm smile and was always ready for a game of cards. She was an avid fan of television and movies and had an impressive collection of VHS tapes. One of her favorite shows was The Edge of Night. Sylvia loved country music, working on puzzles, gardening with her mother, and spending time with the barn cats. She especially looked forward to attending her annual camp at Clear Lake.
Sylvia was predeceased by her mother, Helen (2001), her father, Charlie (2002), and her brother, Vernon (2003).
Sylvia will be remembered for her positive attitude, her warm smile, and the joy she brought to those around her. She will be deeply missed.
