Tony Woychyshyn Obituary

Tony Woychyshyn, formerly of the RM of Rossburn, passed away peacefully on January 3, 2026 at Morley House Personal Care Home at the age of 92 years.

Anthony (Tony) Lonza was born March 6, 1933 at home on the family farm near Olha to Peter and Mary (Chuchrey) Woychyshyn. He was the second of five children, growing up alongside sisters Margaret and Evelyn and brothers Lorne and David.

He attended Byrd School from grade 1 to 9. At the young age of 15 Tony began his farming career first alongside his father and later with his brothers. In the fall of 1956 they moved from the original homestead in the hills west of Olha to the current farm east of Vista.

Farming was Tony’s passion and he devoted his life to raising crops and cattle. He retired from farming in the early 2000s due to health issues and was proud to watch his brother David and nephew Trevor continue to grow the family farm. His love of the farm remained strong to the very end and, after moving to Morley House Personal Care Home, he enjoyed going on drives back out to the farm to observe the progress of the season and the first question he asked while visiting with David or Trevor was always “what are you doing on the farm?”

Tony married Georgina Luhowy on August 29, 1998. In 2012 they moved from the farm into Oakburn where they resided until Tony moved into personal care in 2018.

Tony was predeceased by his parents, Peter and Mary Woychyshyn, wife Georgina Woychyshyn, brother Lorne Woychyshyn, brother-in-law Tony Peech and sister-in-law Wendy Woychyshyn.

Tony is survived by his sisters Margaret Peech and Evelyn (Morley) Luhowy, brother David Woychyshyn, and sister-in-law Vicki Woychyshyn as well as many nephews and nieces that he fondly regarded. Tony was everyone’s uncle and he was lovingly referred to as “Uncle Tony” not just by his family but also by his friends and caregivers.

Tony’s family wishes to thank the staff at Morley House for the exceptional care they provided him over his final years.

Tony will be sadly missed by all who knew him but he leaves behind a harvest of love and a legacy as deep as the soil he tilled. The tractor is silent, the gate is closed and our farmer is finally at peace; Vichnaya Pam’yat.
