Walter Wilbur French Sr.

Born February 1, 1965 in Swan Lake, married Amy February 2, 1990 for 35 years. Date of death December 20, 2025.

Children: David Conrad French, Walter Wilfred French, Kristine Shingoose, Shanielle Catcheway, Ryan Saunders.

Grandchildren: David’s – Tray, Kendra, Chole, Patience, Shayla, Chance, Emma, Cruzieto and Janaya. Wally’s – Eileen, Whitney, Gabriel, Roseliegh. With step kids Jocelyne and her children Anora, Madison, Elicia, R.J., Tristian, April, Aaliayla, Angel and Karter. Kristine’s – Haley, Adam, Troy and Elsa, with step kids Allana and Kendrick. Shanielle – Keira.

He was predeceased by his mother Gladys Shannacappo and his father Walter Shannacappo, along with his in-laws Delbert Severight and Rita Shingoose. His brothers Charles, Alfred, Bruce, William, Leslie and brother-in-law Matt Sr. His sisters Freda and Maryann, and sisters-in-law Bernice and Percella.

Walter is survived by his six brothers Norman, Donald, Colton, George, Martin and Dennis. His two sisters Hazel & Lillian and sisters-in-law Sarah, Mellisa, Jen, Annette and brothers-in-law Andrew and Nathan.

He loved his Johnny Cash, country and gospel music. He loved singing and busting out moves like his dad, horses and working on cars.  He loved using the carpentry skills he learned from Doyle to use, doing home projects. He helped build many homes, including the hall and CFS buildings.

He also loved his hunting days and putting down traplines.

He worked for Minty’s Moving Company and John Holmes. Walter also worked on railway removing all the ties, spikes and beams. He used to sing walk the line with the late Keith it was their go to song to sing. They started from Angusville to Neepawa.

He had also worked for Ken Beaty as a truck driver hauling gravel.

He loved trying to ride his ponies, bucking while he stood over them.

He also worked as security at the VLT’s on the reserve
