It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Walter Huculak. Walter passed away peacefully at the Sandy Lake Personal Care Home on December 19, 2020 at the age of 96.
He was predeceased by his wife Stella in 2013 and will be sadly missed by his children: Marjorie (Dennis), Lloyd (Jacquie), Larry (Wanda) and Lawrence (Cristal), his grandchildren: Tori, Megan, Madison, Brooke, Amber, Logan and Bryce.
Walter is survived by twin sister, Olga Rudniski, sisters: Mary Zatylny, Zenova Shindruk (Lloyd), Frances Koroscil (Metro), sister in law, Grace Huculak, and many nieces and nephews. Walter was predeceased by his parents, Alex and Fedora; son, Leslie; brothers: Nick, John and Bill; sisters: Pauline Huculak, Jean Morris; sisters in law: Anne Huculak, Anne Bodnar, Elizabeth Bodnar; brothers in law: Frank Rudniski, Nick Morris, John Rudniski, Joe Zatylny, John Bodnar and Mike Bodnar.
Walter was born March 27, 1924 in Rackham, Manitoba to Alex and Fedora Huculak. His schooling was done at Rackham School. On June 16, 1951, he married Stella Bodnar and settled down and farmed in the Sandy Lake area.
In 1989, when Dad turned 65, they decided to move to Sandy Lake. They lived in their home in town until their eventual moves to the Personal Care Home.
Dad served on the RM of Harrison Council as councillor for Ward 5 from 1961 – 1977. He also served on the Sandy Lake Personal Care Home Board from 1962 – 1981. Dad also served in the Army during World War II.
The family wishes to thank the Sandy Lake Personal Care Home staff for all their kindness and care they showed Dad over the last 17 years.
He will be deeply missed by all his immediate family, friends, relatives.
